Taos Ski Valley

Taos Ski Valley Anyone sightseeing around the Taos Ski Valley will find some of the best snow in the nation as well an incredible resort. The Taos Ski Valley offers not only one of the best ski schools in the nation, but it is also one of the only family owned and operated resorts in the nation.

History
The Taos Ski Valley began with the idea of Ernie Blake, who wanted to find the perfect ski mountain to live and play on. Throughout the 1950s, while working as a manager of another ski resort, Ernie would search for another snow basin that he could claim as his own. In 1955 he found that location and moved his family there, where he lived in a camper until moving to the lodge. They lived there without power until 1963. Much of the original staff still works at the resort, and talking to them to learn more of the history is a pleasure any Taos sightseer just can not pass up.

Mountain
The mountain receives an average annual snowfall of around 300 inches, which makes it an incredible place to ski during its open months. The resort and mountain itself open in late November of each year, and closes its doors in early April. Throughout most of the year, the mountain receives sunshine, and travelers haven't complained yet. There are 110 trails, with 51% of them expert, with the rest split up evenly between beginner and intermediate. These difficult slopes have made it one of the more popular slopes in the world for skiing. Despite its entire ban of snowboarders.

Ski Taos is the resorts main page, but a number of ski review sites (namely Ski Snowboard.com) praise the resort. Travelers should never have a problem with this place.
